Abstract:
Oral narration as a powerful tool for socialization and an effective way to transmit culturalknowledge, values, and beliefs (Campbell, ۱۹۸۸) is a means, of creative expressions through its usingeducational subjects can be taught, transferred and developed. On this line, the current study focuses onthe role of the oral narration in the students’ oral skills. As another focus of the present research, orallanguage is about communicating with other people and involves a process of utilizing thinking,knowledge and skills in order to speak and listen effectively. As such, it is central to the lives of allpeople. The development of oral language is given an importance as great as that of reading and writing,at every level, in the curriculum. It has an equal weighting with them in the integrated language process.Although the Curriculum places a strong emphasis on oral language, it has been widely acknowledgedthat the implementation of the Oral Language strand has proved challenging.Through a deep consideration of the previous studies, the present descriptive research leads us to theconclusion that the use of oral narration can affect the students’ listening and speaking abilities. It can beapplied utilizing some strategies to improve the students’ oral skills as well as to assess their oralabilities.
