Abstract:
Breast cancer and prostate cancer have been reported as life-threating cancers with highmortality ranks worldwide. Common treatments such as surgery, chemothrapy, hormonethrapyand immunothrapy have been failed to effectively solve these global death-leading diseases. In addition, they have negative side effects on both patient and environment. Recently, usingplant-based agents have received great attention owing to their less side effects, law cost andeco-friendly features. In this study, the effect of Ferula gummosa gum (FG) on MCF-۷ andDU۱۴۵ cell lines was investigated for the first time. According to the MTT assay results, F.gummosa had inhibitory effects on MCF-۷ cells (IC۵۰ = ۱۴.۹۸μg/mL) and Du۱۴۵ (IC۵۰ =۷.۶۷μg/mL). Our finding revealed that F. gummosa induced apoptosis in the both cell linesthrough accelerating the activation of caspase۳/۷ enzyme. Moreover, the results of qPCRshowed that F. gummosa at IC۵۰ dosage increased the expression in P۵۳ as a pro-apoptoticgene and less expression in BCL-۲ as a anti-apoptotic gene on the both cell lines. This provedthat F. gummosa can remove cancer cells due to its impress on genes involve in cell deathpathway. This study suggests F. gummosa as an effective herbal medicine for breast cancerand prostate cancer treatment, with less harmful effects on patients and environment.
