Comparing the Performance of Steel, Wooden and Aluminum Beams in Structural Connections during Static Analysis abstract

Today, the use of alternative materials such as wood and composite materials in structures is one of the solutions of structural engineers. Reducing the consumption of steel in the structure reduces emissions and reduces the weight of the structure. Therefore, in the present paper, it is tried to model common connections in steel structures using ABAQUS software and finite element method (FEM). In the connections, it is tried to replace steel beams with wooden and aluminum beams in order to check their effect on the seismic performance of the connection. Connections are subjected to static loading. The results show that the steel beam has a much better performance compared to wooden and aluminum beams. But the wooden beam has a relatively good performance and can be used in steel structures. Numerical values of seismic parameters including von mises stress, displacement and support reaction force in wooden beam compared to steel beam were 20.71 times, 0.216 times and 0.828 times, respectively. It is suggested to use wooden composite beams in some steel structures and experimentally.
