The Effect of English Language Learning Motivation on Iranian IntermediateEFL Learners' Speaking abstract
This study examined the impact of motivation for learning English on the speaking ability ofintermediate EFL learners in Iran. Ninety Iranian intermediate students from an English languageschool in Ardabil were involved in the research. Fifty female students were chosen based on theirperformance on the Oxford Quick Placement Test. The homogenized participants were then giventhe Hermans' Motivation questionnaire to determine their motivation level (high or low). As aresult, they were split into two groups, "high and low motivation learners." Finally, at the end ofthe semester, all sixty high and low motivated learners took the IELTS speaking exam to determinetheir speaking ability level. Ultimately, the speaking test results for the two groups were comparedusing an Independent Samples t-test. According to the findings, students who are more motivatedbehave more naturally when speaking than those who are less motivated.
