The Terminology of Tea in the English and Persian Languages and Literature abstract

This study examines the stance of tea in the Persian and English languages and literature usingcorpus analysis. In order to do so, a comparison of the pertinent terms in the cultural settings ofthe two languages was conducted. The vocabulary of tea in its verb, noun, and adjective forms wascovered in the first section of the study. The second section analyzed a literary corpus to find outhow frequently tea-related words were employed in a number of the Persian and English literaryworks, as well as their meanings in those contexts. Persian nouns are more diverse than Englishadjectives when lexicons from the two languages are compared. The findings of the study revealsthat the terms “tea” and “tea-cup” are prioritized in the frequency lists of both English and Persianliterary works, as may be observed by comparing the literary sentences contained in those works. It is concluded that Persian literary works discuss Iranian tea culture in more detail than Englishworks, which just identify “tea” as the main beverage.
