A Study on Tack of Crosslinked Acrylic Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives abstract

The viscoelastic properties and the adhesion of pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are affected bythe test conditions in addition to the formulation. Herein, the adhesion properties of a poly(2-ethylhexyl acrylate-acrylic acid) copolymer containing 0.2 and 0.3 wt. % crosslinking agent withrespect to the copolymer was evaluated in a probe tack test at debonding rates of 5, 50 and 100mm/min. Increasing the test rate caused an increase in the maximum strain, maximum debondingstress and adhesion energy, as well as the occurrence of strain-hardening behaviour in both PSAs.Increasing the degree of crosslinking also caused a decrease in the maximum strain and adhesionenergy and an increase in the maximum stress, up to a rate of 50 mm/min.
