Biological Adhesive with Antibacterial Properties abstract

It has been a great challenge to develop suitable tissue adhesives that can be efficient on wetinternal tissues with acceptable adhesion strength and biocompatibility. Chitosan-based hydrogelshave been widely used in biomedical applications owing to their versatile properties. To this end,we have devised the functionalization of chitosan with gallic acid (GA, L-DOPA analogue) and inturn, the formation of a cross-linked network with a dialdehyde cellulose nano crystal (DACNC) toobtain an efficient bio adhesive material. To provide a bacterium–free environment that improvesthe healing process, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were incorporated into the chitosancatecholmatrix. The structural characteristics of films using FTIR confirmed successfullyformation of hydrogels. The addition of ZnO enhanced the antimicrobial peroperties of thehydrogels. Functional properties of the hydrogels such as physiological stability assessment, invitro blood-clotting performance, cytocompatibility, adhesive strength, and hemostaticperformance will be investigated.
