A novel strategy for improving the grafting degree of maleic anhydride ontohigh density polyethylene by using compatibilizer abstract

Functionalization of polyolefins with polar monomers such as maleic anhydride has attracted muchattention due to their wide range of applications. The grafting degree of these modified polymersdirectly affect their performance as interfacial modifiers. In this research, the effect of usingcompatibilizer on improving the grafting degree of maleic anhydride onto high density polyethylenein free-radical melt grafting process was investigated. After removing unreacted monomers, Thegrafting degree values were calculated by FTIR method. The results showed that the grafting degreeof the sample containing 3% of compatibilizer has improved about 29.62% compared to the samplewithout any compatibilizer.
