Effectiveness of Compassion-Based Therapy on Body Image Dissatisfaction in High-Anxiety Students at Malard University abstract

The aim of this research was to examine the effectiveness of compassion-based therapy on body image dissatisfaction in high-anxiety students at Malard University. The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design. The statistical population included all high-anxiety students at the Islamic Azad University, Malard branch, during the academic year 2023. The sampling method was convenience sampling, and a sample size of 40 individuals was selected. To collect data, the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ) developed by Cash (1990) was used. The compassion-focused therapy sessions based on Gilbert's approach (2010; 2014) were conducted over 8 sessions, each lasting 90 minutes. The results indicated that compassion-based therapy has a positive effect on body image dissatisfaction in high-anxiety students at Malard University (P<0.05). Based on the results, it can be concluded that compassion therapy can have a beneficial impact on body image.
