Abstract:

Adsorption behavior of uranium on sample of synthesized inorganic ion exchanger, titanium molybdophosphate, based polyoxometalates has beeninvestigated under various conditions similar to the radioactive waste solutions. The physical properties of this material were studied by X-ray diffraction,adsorption/desorption nitrogen isotherms, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetry technique. The results showed that thematerial possessed microporous and amorphous structure and were stable up to 750 °C. Adsorption values of uranium on the synthesized sample as afunctional of contact time, hydronium and sodium ion concentrations was investigated. Based on the obtained results, the adsorption of uranium was highat lower ionic strength and relatively low concentration of hydronium ion. Also, the evaluation of the column efficiency toward uranium ions wasinvestigated by obtaining breakthrough curves. Elution curve indicate that desorption of uranium ion was performed completely by using 1 M HNO3.Kinetics data revealed that uptake rate of uranium were relatively rapid and the adsorption process can be described by the pseudo second-order reaction rate model.
