Crisis Management And Team Effectiveness abstract

Crisis management is designated as the organization's respective functions in terms of preparation, response, and recovery due to sudden and often damaging events. Success or failure in crisis management lies more or less in the effectiveness of the teams responsible for handling these sorts of situations. Well-constituted CMTs with a broad skill base and high level of teaming skills are always at the heart of any effort to contain the adverse consequences of any given crisis. Clearly, such teams are those that have first had experience working with each other to communicate well with one another and arrive at quick decisions in situations of time pressure. Team diversity, in particular, with respect to experience and perspectives, enhances their ability to think creatively and manage dynamic circumstances of a crisis (Shaw, 1976; Salazar, 1996).Leadership also significantly impacts crisis management teams to make rational choices through challenging and uncertain times. It is a leader who permits open communication and maintains the team's attention on organizational goals that can guide the team through a crisis with stability and efficiency. Besides, communication within the team and with all relevant stakeholders holds the key to a coordinated and transparent response as well. This paper delves into the role of team dynamics, leadership styles, and communication in ensuring team effectiveness during a crisis and how such preparation by an organization can help it overcome any crisis with much ease. It follows that investment in team training, leadership development, and clear communication strategies is highly important for building organizational resilience and effective management of crises. According to King (2002), it is in this regard that investment in team training, leadership development, and clear communication strategies becomes an important aspect of building organizational resilience and ensuring effective crisis management.
