A comprehensive review of supercapacitor applications and developments: an overview abstract
Huge energy storage is an important challenge for electricity generation. Researchers have studiedmethods of energy storage and efficiency enhancement for years. In recent years, researchers havebeen investigating new materials and techniques to store significant amounts of energy moreefficiently. In particular, renewable energy sources and electric vehicle technologies initiate thesescientific studies. Scientists and manufacturers have recently proposed the supercapacitor (SC) as analternate or hybrid storage device. The purpose of this paper is to comprehensively review SCapplications and their developments. Based on this, first a detailed literature review was conducted.Historical results of SCs are shown in this paper. The structure, working principle, and materials of SCare presented in detail to be analyzed more effectively. Advantages and disadvantages, marketcharacteristics, and new technologies are discussed with manufacturing companies to produce atechno-economic analysis of SCs. Electric vehicle, power systems, hybrid energy storage systems withthe integration of renewable energy sources and other SC applications are reviewed in this paper. Inthis paper, in addition, an overview of the design principles of SC modeling with charge and dischargeexperiments is reviewed.
