Effects of Ceramic Fillers on the Mechanical and the Heat Diffusivity of Butyl Rubber in the Presence of Carbon Black abstract

Design of experiment was conducted to study the effect of alumina micro particles as a ceramic filler alone or along with two other ceramic fillers, boehmite and silicon carbide (SiC), on the mechanical properties and the heat transfer characteristics of carbon black-filled butyl rubber-based curing tire bladder composite. A slight decrease in the tensile strength of the carbon black-filled butyl composites was observed in the presence of ceramic fillers. The study of the thermo-physical properties showed that the thermal diffusivity of the butyl composites some increases in the presence of alumina and SiC. The highest thermal diffusivity value of the composite was obtained in the hybrid use of alumina and silicon carbide.
