Exploring Strategies for Enhancing Sustainability in theIranian Steel Industry abstract
The Iranian steel industry, a significant contributor to energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, faces increasing pressure to adopt sustainable practices amidst rising global environmental concerns. This studyexplores pathways for enhancing sustainability in steel production in Iran through the application of Life CycleAssessment (LCA) and Environmental Management Systems (EMS). By analyzing current practices, this researchidentifies key environmental impacts associated with resource consumption and emissions throughout the steelproduction process. Findings reveal that adopting renewable energy sources, such as solar power and hydrogen fuel, alongside increased recycling of scrap metal, can substantially reduce environmental burdens. Case studiesdemonstrate that transitioning to these alternative processes could lower energy demands, minimize water usage, and significantly cut carbon emissions. The study concludes that implementing LCA and EMS within Iranian steelproduction offers a viable strategy for aligning industrial practices with global sustainability goals while alsopromoting economic benefits through resource efficiency.
