4D printing of implants and prostheses abstract

Researchers, engineers and doctors are continuously focusing on the development of orthopedics parts characterizedby the required responses. So, advanced manufacturing technologies are introduced to fulfil various previously facedchallenges.4D printing is an innovative digital manufacturing technology that originated by adding a fourth dimension, i.e., time,to pre-existing 3D technology or additive manufacturing (AM). AM is a fast-growing technology used in many fields, whichdevelops accurate 3D objects based on models designed by computers. 4D printing provides rapid development with itscapability of customization of smart orthopedics implants and appropriate surgical procedure. This technology opens up themaking of innovative, adaptable internal splints, stents, replacement of tissues and organs.4D printed parts show the capabilityof shape-changing and self-assembly to perform the required functions, which otherwise manufactured parts are not providing.Smart orthopedics implants are used for spinal deformities, fracture fixation, joint, knee replacement and other relatedorthopedics applications. Today various smart materials are available, which could be Due to the ability of shape-changing,smart implants can change their shape after being implanted in the patient body.
