The effect of marital relationship enhancement education based on the approach of religious teachings on different dimensions of sexual, spiritual, and mental health of married women

Abstract Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of marital relationship enhancement education based on the approach of religious teachings on different dimensions of sexual, spiritual, and mental health of married women.  Methods The interventional study with a control group was carried out from November ۲۰۲۱ to February ۲۰۲۲ in Amol, Iran. A total of ۷۲ married women were included in two groupsincluding an intervention group and a control group. The subjects of the intervention group received marital relationship enhancement based on religious teachings in ۶ two-hour group sessions once a week. Participants in the two groups completed Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWB), and General Mental Health questionnaires (GHQ) before and after the end of the intervention Independentmouseout="msoCommentHide('_com_۱')" onmouseover="msoCommentShow('_anchor_۱','_com_۱')">[reviewer۱]  and paired t-test, Chi-square, and ANCOVA were used for data analysis. Results: Mean values of the female sexual function, spiritual well-being, and mental health score were ۲۵.۹۶±۳.۶۹, ۹۵.۸۲±۱۴.۳۱ and ۲۱.۱۷ ± ۱۲.۵۶ respectively. In comparison of two groups, the results showed that the mean values of sexual function (P<۰.۰۰۱), and also its dimensions arousal (P<۰.۰۰۱), lubricant (P<۰.۰۰۱mouseout="msoCommentHide('_com_۲')" onmouseover="msoCommentShow('_anchor_۲','_com_۲')">[reviewer۲] ), orgasm (P<۰.۰۰۱), satisfaction (P<۰.۰۰۱), and sexual pain (P=۰.۰۴۴) were different in the two groups. Mean values of spiritual well-being, and also its dimensions including religious well-being, and existential well-being were different in the two groups (P<۰.۰۰۱).Mean values of general mental health, and also its dimensions anxiety and insomnia symptoms, social dysfunction, and depression symptoms were different in two groups(P<۰.۰۰۱).The mean pre-to-post test scores of female sexual function, spiritual well-being, general mental health and its domains(except sexual desire, and somatic symptoms)increased significantly in the intervention group(P<۰.۰۰۱).The difference in the control group was not significant in any of the above cases.
