Rectification of Effective Period of Buildings in Plastic Zone Based on Pounding in order to Determine Critical Distance abstract
Nowadays, investigation of pounding philosophy has experimentally provided a new image in order to analyze and design of structures during seismic excitation as the majority of buildings have usually shown serious damages due to impact between two adjacent buildings. Buildings indicate a different lateral displacement which accrues by earthquake and is naturally caused impact forces between two structures. The evaluation of nonlinear building responses in terms of lateral displacements and accrued contacts between adjacent buildings have generally reported a great problem, considered to separation distance, and shown unsuitable critical distance between buildings. In order to evaluate building pounding and determine sufficient separation distance between two buildings to avoid contact and damage, by using different models with various periods, a new equation of motion is numerically estimated to calculate effective period in plastic zone and the accuracy of the equation is numerically confirmed.
