Biosurfactant Production Expending the Novel Substrates for Anti-UTI, Antimicrobial and Free Radical Scavenging Activities abstract

Biosurfactants, originated from microbes, plants, and animals. Biosurfactants are surface active agents which have applications in medical, food, and cosmetic industries. Synthetic surfactants demonstrate disadvantages over natural biosurfactants and to leverage the natural biosurfactants thereby, current study is intended to analyze the potential applications of produced biosurfactants for their inhibitory activity against Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) pathogen. Thus as-produced biosurfactants from rock isolate Staphylococcus nepalensis (KY024500) confirms 2.39, 4.0, and 5.62 g l-1 yields using glycerol, onion peels, and olive oil, as a sole carbon source, respectively. Thus, as-obtained biosurfactants from onion peels and olive oil are subjected to solvent extraction using column chromatography and further characterized using gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GCMS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques. The antimicrobial potential of biosurfactants obtained from olive oil and onion peel powder is more effective towards isolated UTI pathogens as compared to standard antibiotics. However, isolated UTI pathogen is resistant to antibiotics ampicillin, penicillin, and ceftazidime. Furthermore, the extracted biosurfactants were proceed to perform DPPH scavenging activity which reveals 38% inhibition from olive oil and 32% inhibition from onion peels. Current study concludes, the biosurfactants extracted from onian peels were reveled optimum anti UTI, antimicrobial as well as DPPH scavenging activity.
