The best absolute band gap at high and low frequencies in the hexagonal lattice with square holes in GaAs abstract

The band gaps of a two-dimensional photonic crystal created by inhomogeneous hexagonal lattice of variable central square air holes in GaAs are studied numerically. We can obtain the best absolute photonic band gap for high and low normalized frequencies in this structure by changing the square of width. The photonic band gaps are calculated by the plane wave expansion (PWE) method. The results exhibit 39.9% and 86.6% overlaps in the band gaps of both polarizations of TE and TM in the high and low normalized frequency ranges in hexagonal lattice, respectively.
