Comparison of the amount of total lectin in the fruit (unripe and ripe) of the mistletoe medicinal plant based on the ironwood (Parrotia persica C.A. Meyer) tree abstract

Todays, the use of plant compounds as medicine has received less attention than chemical compounds due to the side effects. Among these plants, mistletoe (Viscum album L.) can be mentioned. Mistletoe is a semi-parasitic plant that grows on different hosts and receives the water and nutrients it needs from the host through the haustorium. The host species are effective in determining the quantity and quality of its bioactive compounds; among these hosts, we can mention the species of ironwood (Parrotia persica C.A. Meyer) endemic to the Hyrcanian forests. Research shows the essential role of lectin composition in mistletoe in healing and treating cancer. This research aims to compare the amount of total lectin in mistletoe fruit located in summer (unripe fruit) and autumn (ripe fruit). In this research, plant samples were sampled from three mistletoe plants located on each stand, three stands (3 replicates), in similar ecological conditions located in the Klard Amel forest of Hyrkani forests. After extracting the samples, they were injected into the ELISA device for analysis with saline phosphate buffer and galactose. The results showed that the highest amount of lectin was in the fruit of the summer season (0.55 mg/g dry weight), and the lowest amount belonged to the fruit of autumn season (0.21 mg/g dry weight).
