Biotechnology role in the protection and management of natural resources abstract
The most important natural resources for the general public are plants, water, land, food, animals and soil. Natural resources may include management activities such as controlling, protecting and/or monitoring the functioning of natural resources such as forests, pastures, fisheries and wildlife. Until now, the people involved in the issue of protection and management of natural resources mostly belong to engineering and related fields and have had limited interaction with biologists. However, in the modern management of natural resources, the need to apply biological knowledge and research is felt. One of the processes of natural resource management is the use of integrated management of natural resources, which includes various aspects of biophysical, socio-political and economic issues for the use of natural resources so that they can achieve goals such as food security, profitability, reduction risk as well as broader goals such as poverty reduction, welfare of future generations, environmental protection. One of the most obvious aspects of poverty is the obvious relationship between this phenomenon and the destruction of natural resources, which leads to environmental instability. Therefore, sustainable natural resource management in the world, as well as in Iran, is only possible with poverty alleviation. However, without poverty reduction, the environment of developing countries will be destroyed, and without better natural resource management, prosperity and increased living standards will decline. Meanwhile, biotechnology using the technologies of biological systems, organisms, or their derivatives can provide solutions to improve conservation and management activities related to natural resource management, which are not possible to a large extent from engineering methods. In this review study, an effort has been made to understand better the problems related to natural resource management so that better results can be achieved through biotechnological processes and paths in the field of resource management. At the same time, more and better synergy can be established between the fields of engineering and biotechnology.
