Effective Removal of Congo red from the Aqueous Medium by Polyaniline Coated on Wood Powder abstract

In this study, the application of self-doped polyaniline coated/wood sawdust (SDPA/SD) composite for effluent decolorization containing anionic Congo red dye was studied. The effect of some variables on the decolorization process such as adsorbent amount, initial dye concentration, solution pH, contact time and refractive index was investigated. In addition, the desorption process was studied for reuse of the adsorbent. The surface properties of SDPA/SD were evaluated using the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) method. Among the various variables, the pH of the solution had the greatest effect in the decolorization process. High-efficiency adsorption and desorption processes are also possible with simple pH control. The experimental results showed that the decolorization process is better adapted to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The Congo red adsorption process (CR) on SDPA/SD follows a quasi-quadratic kinetic equation that shows the process can be controlled by chemical adsorption.
