Scenedesmus sp. strain MTR 1901: A Green Solution for Environmental Remediation abstract
Heavy metals are known as environmental pollutants that pose challenges for preserving the environment. Biological techniques are a suitable solution for removing these pollutants. This current study evaluated the potential of uranium removal by Scenedesmus sp. strain MTR 1901. Results showed the growth pattern of the microalgae and its ability to remove uranium without using additional nutrients. The findings indicate the microalgae's ability to reduce uranium over different concentrations, showing it can remove about 87% of uranium in the first hour of exposure in a live environment, with a removal of 1.57 mg per liter of uranium. Within 28 hours, uranium removal reached nearly 99%, presenting this strain as a promising solution for uranium bioremediation.
