Tourism Planning According to Climate Conditions Case Study: Urmia Lake Basin abstract

There is no doubt climatology is an important factor in the development of tourism. A suitable climate can elicit a positive response for tourism, and tourists plan their trip program according to the destination's climate condition. This study aims to review the relationship between climatology and tourism in the Urmia Lake Basin. For this purpose, the index of climatic comfort PET has been used, and Ray Man software has been utilized to calculate this index. Climatic statistics from synoptic stations for the periods 1986-2020 have been applied. The results show that around 5 months of the year are cold and unsuitable for tourists, but with suitable mountainous locations, an ideal position for winter tourism can be achieved with the adoption of appropriate measures. June and September are the most suitable months in terms of climatic comfort in most stations. In August and July, heat stress dominates the central part of the basin.
