Hydraulic and Geotechnical Analysis of Seepage and Drainage in Khomein City: Impacts on Historical Structures Near the Central River abstract
Seepage and drainage are significant concerns in urban areas, particularly when they impact historical and cultural heritage structures. This study examines the hydraulic and geotechnical challenges in Khomein, located in Markazi Province, Iran, with a focus on the central river’s effects on nearby historical monuments, such as the old residence of Imam Khomeini. Laboratory analyses on ten soil samples, conducted at the government laboratory in Khomein, were used alongside numerical modeling performed using the PLAXIS finite element software on fifty scenarios. Furthermore, the paper reviews the devastating floods of previous years that caused the collapse of riverbank walls in Firouzabad. The study concludes with practical recommendations for mitigating future damage to heritage structures and enhancing riverbank stability.
