A Study on Digital Health; Indicators of Digital Economy Development abstract
The digital economy encompasses a spectrum of economic activities conducted online using digital technologies such as the internet, computers, and smartphones. Essentially, any activity performed via the internet is considered part of the digital economy. In parallel, digital health involves the utilization of digital technologies to enhance and promote individual and community health. Any use of digital tools and software in the health sector, ranging from mobile applications to electronic health records, falls under the umbrella of digital health. Digital health acts as a specialized segment within the digital economy. It not only improves individual health but also plays a crucial role in the digital economy, creating various economic and social opportunities. This study aims to examine the current state of digital health in Iran, relying on credible resources and reports. This applied research employed a descriptive-review methodology with a content analysis approach. Both primary and secondary data were utilized. The results, in summary, indicate that indicators such as digital health tourism, online doctor appointments, fitness and nutrition apps, and electronic health records have seen significant growth in 2020 and 2021. Numerous startups have emerged in various medical, therapeutic, and health. Despite substantial progress, the industry has yet to reach its full potential. Moreover, digital health has not been widely adopted by the general public, including medical tourists seeking treatment in Iran, and requires further development and promotion. Additionally, concerted efforts are needed to enhance the capabilities of these startups and ensure that their services are of higher quality, more reliable, and more accessible to the public. Finally, the study presents practical recommendations based on the research findings.
