Abstract:
Salivary exosomes are extracellular vesicles (EVs) characterized by abundant CD۶۳ immunoreactivityon their surface. Based on size and protein composition, these exosomes can be classified into twocategories: exosomes I, with a mean diameter of ۸۳.۵ nm, and exosomes II, with a mean diameter of۴۰.۵ nm. This review aims to explore the features of these exosomes, including their origin, composition, and potential applications in medicine. The composition of salivary exosomes is invaluablenot only for diagnostic purposes but also for understanding the roles of their contents and components inthe fundamental pathophysiological processes of various diseases. As these EVs can cross epithelialbarriers, they are likely crucial in transporting diverse components from the bloodstream into saliva.Consequently, compared to other bodily fluids, salivary exosomes may serve as a more accessible andefficient tool for investigating the role of exosomes in disease diagnosis and treatment.
