Investigating the Impact of Parenting Styles and Communication Skills of Couples on the Formation and Prevention of Emotional Divorce abstract
AbstractEmotional divorce is one of the fundamental challenges in marital life that leads to the reduction of emotional interactions, intimacy, and empathy between spouses. This study examines the impact of parenting styles and communication skills of couples on the formation and prevention of emotional divorce. The research method is based on archival and library research, relying on the analysis of previous studies and relevant theoretical data. The findings show that parenting styles play an important role in the quality of marital relationships; in particular, the authoritative parenting style, based on positive interaction, support, and guidance, has a positive impact on reducing marital conflicts. In contrast, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful parenting styles may increase stress and marital dissatisfaction. Furthermore, communication skills such as active listening, effective conflict resolution, and proper expression of feelings play a significant role in reducing misunderstandings and increasing empathy between spouses. The results indicate that strengthening communication skills and balancing the roles of spouses and parents can be effective in reducing emotional divorce. In this regard, educational courses, the use of counseling services, and raising awareness among couples about the importance of constructive communication are proposed as strategies to reduce this issue. Based on the findings, future studies are suggested to explore the effects of educational interventions and counseling in improving marital relationships and preventing emotional divorce.
