Fungal Coinfection in HIV: The Clinical Manifestations and Disease Progression abstract
Human immunodeficiency virus is a worldwide threat to human health, and opportunistic infections (OIs) continue to be a cause of morbidity and mortality in HIV-infected patients. Fungi are major contributors to the opportunistic infections that affect patients with HIV/AIDS. In this mini-review, we discussed 3 stages of HIV-1 by covering the clinical manifestations and common fungal pathogens related to each stage which include co-infection with oral candidiasis, Pneumocystis jirovecii, cryptococcus neoformans, Histoplasma capsulatum.
