Visions, strategies, and principles of the green city abstract
Around the world, urban populations are growing rapidly. According to the United Nations, around half the world’s population now lives in urban areas, with this figure likely to exceed 68 per cent by 2050. To meet the rising demand for services, cities require vast amounts of resources, which, in turn, has a significant impact on the urban environment. To address these challenges, Green city action plans (GCAP) developed the program that aim of building a better and more sustainable future for cities and their residents. The GCAP programs aim to provide a comprehensive response to the challenges facing cities through investment and policy development at various levels, including land use and green spaces, urban governance, energy, transportation, and more. Preserving and enhancing the quality of environmental components such as water, air, soil, and biodiversity, as well as building capacity for greater adaptability and resilience in cities in the face of climate change, and improving the social health of communities are key objectives of this program. In pursuit of these objectives, the program identifies the current conditions and prioritizes challenges, developing a vision and an actionable agenda to address the identified issues.
