Investigating the prevalence of sexual sadism in marriages leading to emotional problems and divorce in Birjand: factors, consequences, and coping strategies

This article examined the prevalence of sexual sadism in the city of Birjand and the factors affecting it. Considering the cultural, social, and psychological characteristics of Iranian society, and especially the city of Birjand, the main goal of this research is to identify the factors that can cause the prevalence of this behavior among individuals. Also, the social and psychological consequences of this phenomenon on its victims and perpetrators and strategies for dealing with this disorder are examined. The research method is mainly descriptive-analytical, using library resources and field interviews to collect data. Findings: The overall prevalence of sexual sadism disorder was 15%. Some patients reported more than one disorder. There is a significant relationship between women's age and duration of marriage, psychiatric disorders and history of psychiatric medication use in couples, as well as history of sexual abuse with women's sexual experience. Conclusion: Sexual sadism disorder with a prevalence of 15% cannot be considered one of the important and main factors causing emotional problems in marriages with these problems in Birjand.
