Abstract:
With advancements in MEMS technology, Acoustic Vector Sensors (AVS) have gained attention in recent decades. Unlike conventional microphone arrays, an AVS can perform spatial processing to determine the direction of arrival (DOA) of sound sources using a compact sensor arrangement. This paper presents a systematic analysis of the design of pressure-based AVS (referred to as P-P based AVS) utilizing omnidirectional microphones. Various configurations were investigated, and the DOA error for each configuration was obtained using COMSOL Multiphysics® software. The parameters affecting the Absolute Angular Error (AAE) were discussed. Simulation results indicate that an optimal vertical and symmetrical configuration aimed at the sound source can reduce the mean absolute angular error by up to ۳%. Furthermore, increasing the distance between microphones across all structures resulted in an increase in the mean absolute angular error.
