Effects of Local beta -adrenergic antagonists on diabetic foot ulcers healing: A systematic Review abstract

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are chronic and resistant-to-treatment wounds afflicting a considerable portion (19% to 34%) of diabetic patients and account for 40-70% of non-traumatic leg-amputations. Unfortunately, despite enormous investments alongside with wound specialist adherence to the best standard wound care regimens, only 31% of DFUs heal after 20 weeks of treatment. So, urgent need to research for state-of-the-art alternative approaches is needed. Hereon, beta-antagonists as cost-effective and widely-used agents in the treatment of dermatological conditions have been reported to improve wound healing. Therefore, this review conducted to provide a comprehensive summary about the effects of both systemic and topical beta blockers on DFUs healing.
