Single Camera Vehicles Speed Measurement

Image and video processing techniques are one ofthe commonly used methods for traffics monitoring. This paperinvestigates the image processing techniques based vehicles speedmeasurement issue using only a fixed single camera. Therefore, ageometrical calculation based method is proposed. Based on thismethod, first a moving vehicle is detected in a video backgroundand then the vehicle speed is estimated based on somegeometrical calculations. A comparison is made between thismethod and two other same case vehicles speed measurementmethods for evaluation. The simulations results on 160×112pixels real recorded video images shows the average vehiclesspeed error less than %10.
