Abstract:

Mineral scale formation, such as calcium carbonate and barium sulfate, is a common and costly issue in the oil and gas industry, often triggered by changes in temperature, pressure, and water chemistry. These scales can clog porous media, reduce reservoir permeability, and damage production equipment. In this study, a Python-based software was developed to predict scale formation using thermodynamic modeling and visual output tools. The program calculates the Saturation Index (SI) and predicts the likelihood of scale precipitation under various operational conditions, allowing users to input ion concentrations, temperature, and pressure. The accuracy of the software was validated through case studies and sensitivity analyses, demonstrating the impact of environmental parameters on scale potential. This tool provides engineers and researchers with a practical means of analyzing fluid behavior in reservoirs, enhancing decision-making for scale management and improving operational efficiency
