Abstract:
With increasing sustainability requirements and intensifying competition in international markets particularly in the Middle East the adoption of sustainable supply chains (SSC) has become a strategic imperative for the cosmetics and detergents export industry. This review article provides a comprehensive analysis of theoretical and empirical literature on the role of SSC in managing export-related risks within this sector. The study's conceptual framework draws upon the Triple Bottom Line (TBL), Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and international risk management standards such as ISO, COSO ERM, and IRM. A structured literature review reveals that most existing studies emphasize environmental dimensions or green design and manufacturing, while regulatory, legal, and commercial risks especially in the context of GCC countries remain underexplored. Furthermore, the link between sustainability practices in supply chains and enhanced export competitiveness is not yet consistently addressed across the literature. By identifying key challenges and research gaps, this article outlines future directions for localized SSCM strategies, integrated risk assessment approaches, and the development of strategic decision-making models tailored to regional export markets.
