2D Modeling of Vortex Transport in Viscous Fluid Flows Using a Nested Grid Method abstract

A 2DH nested hydrodynamic numerical model based on time dependent Navier-Stokes equations has been developed herein. Nested Cartesian grid has been used to solve vortex transport form of N-Sequations and the solution is based on a fractional step method. The finite volume method has beendeployed which provides the global conservation for the governing equations, and an iterative SOR scheme has been employed to solve the tow-way nested grid normalized equations. The discretization scheme provides second-order accuracy in space and time. The model is capable of utilization of multiplenested-blocks in the domain to achieve the required accuracy in crucial zones. Lid-driven cavity flow and Pearson vortex problem have been simulated and the results have been compared against analytical solution and alternative numerically simulated values available in the literature. The comparisons confirm the ability of the model for the simulation of water bodies with complex flow-structure interactions.
