Abstract:

Introduction: COVID-۱۹ has been associated with multiple organ injuries, contributing to increased morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of cardiac, renal, and hepatic injuries among deceased and ICU-admitted COVID-۱۹ patients at Imam Sari Hospital. Methods: A total of ۶۰۰ patients were included in this cross-sectional study. Demographic data and clinical histories were collected. The presence of organ injuries was determined by a medical team based on laboratory findings and CT scans. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version ۲۶, with a significance level set at ۰.۰۵. Descriptive statistics and appropriate inferential tests (independent sample t-test, Pearson Chi-square) were used to analyze the data. Results: The mean age of patients was ۵۱.۸۳ ± ۱۶.۷۰ years, with most patients (۴۲.۳%) aged ۶۱–۷۵. Males comprised ۵۳% of the sample. The prevalence of cardiac, renal, and hepatic injuries was ۳۲.۰%, ۱۳.۷%, and ۳.۷%, respectively. Older age was significantly associated with all three types of injuries (P < ۰.۰۵). No significant association was found between gender and organ injury prevalence. Mortality rates were significantly higher among patients with cardiac (۴۵.۸% vs. ۵.۴%), renal (۵۷.۳% vs. ۱۲.۲%), and hepatic (۳۶.۴% vs. ۱۷.۶%) injuries compared to those without these injuries (P < ۰.۰۵ for all). Conclusion: Cardiac, renal, and hepatic injuries are prevalent among severe COVID-۱۹ cases, especially in older patients, and are strongly linked to increased mortality. Gender does not appear to influence the risk of these injuries.
