Abstract:
This study investigates the effect of fuel injection timing on combustion parameters, emissions, and combustion stability in a diesel engine. For this purpose, a diesel engine model was simulated using GT-Power software. In this study, the injection timing was varied from ۱۰° to ۲۵° Before Top Dead Center (BTDC), and its effects on parameters such as in-cylinder pressure, heat release rate (HRR), ignition delay, fuel consumption ratio, thermal efficiency, and emissions including NOx, HC, and CO were examined. The results showed that the optimal injection timing lies between ۱۵° and ۲۰° BTDC, where the engine performance in terms of brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) and thermal efficiency was optimized, and NOx emissions remained at an acceptable level. Furthermore, both earlier and later injection timings led to increased NOx and CO emissions, respectively. This study also suggests that combining optimal injection timing with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system or using biofuels can help reduce emissions and improve engine performance. Finally, recommendations for future research on further optimization of injection timing and its integration with modern technologies are presented.
