Abstract:

Minimum miscibility pressure (MMP) is one the most important parameters in the design of miscible gas and solvent injection enhanced oil recovery (EOR)projects.Various theoretical methods but few experimental methods are available for confidently determining the MMP at reservoir conditions.The presentexperimental study presents the application of a relatively new MMP determination technique namely vanishing interfacial tension method (VIT) ininvestigation of the effect of temperature on miscibility of gas oil and supercritical CO2. VIT technique relies on the measurements of gas/oilinterfacial tension (IFT) at several pressures and constant temperature.Besides, the density of the liquid and the dense gasat pressure and temperaturerange ofthe experiments was experimentally determined. The results clearly indicated that the MMP increases with temperature, however, the gradient of MMP increase is decreased with the temperature. The change of slop in interfacial tension data at high pressure is related to the difference between MMP and FCM, which are both accurately measurable with the VIT technique.
