Control of dynamic building façade: design, analysis and experiments abstract

One of the most prominent issues in construction of intelligent buildings is their facade design. Façade design should be taken into account not only in term of buildings appearance, but also the energy efficiency. If the dynamic facade is controlled via optical sensors or air conditioning, it can provide comfortable environment for the inhabitants and also not increase the energy consumption; in some cases even reduce it. In this research, which considering an office in Tehran, the goal is to achieve average illuminance of 500 lux and reduce electrical energy consumption by means of regular movement of façade. Furthermore, the effects of dynamic facade on energy consumption have been studied. Three patterns were applied to the facade and it should also be mentioned that these patterns are such appropriately designed that consider the beautification of external appearance. In this study, results was shown that applying the third pattern at a day or all patterns at one day, electrical energy consumption is less than ordinary building (with curtain) and daylight glare index value is within the range of comfort. On the other hand, one experimental sample of simulated facade has been constructed which moves proportional to the interior light and it has been checked practically.
