Abstract:

Anthropogenic climate change owing to greenhouse gas emissions in various ways as the main culprit of this catastrophe, has obligated the government agencies and scientific communities to legislate and develop alternative solutions to overcome the aforementioned breakdown. Moreover, amidst existing options, biomass and biofuels as its main products appear to be a viable remedy moving toward a sustainable development. This paper is aimed to investigate some process parameters on the conversion of organic matter into building blocks, such as the volatile fatty acids (VFA). The organic matter was contained into two waste streams produced in urban area, such as the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) and sewage sludge produced into the typical biological nutrients removal (BNR) full-scale plant. Using a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor, the performance of four important factors in the fermentation Process called organic loading rate, PH, volatile fatty acid and VFA/CODSOL (soluble chemical oxygen demand) are investigated under thermophilic condition (۵۵°C), by using a feedstock mixture of WAS (۶۰% v/v) and OFMSW (۴۰% v/v) and without pH control conditions.
