Working memory: A deficiency in the educational system

Background and Aim: Working memory is a variable that has attracted the attention of many researchers in recent years Methods: We investigated ۵۰ Wechsler Child and Tehran-Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales that were administered on the elementary students who had come to the Arak Specific Learning Disorders Center Results: This study examined the performance of students with Specific learning disorders on working memory tests Conclusion: Considering ۱۰۰ as the mean and ۱۵ as the standard deviation, working memory IQ of ۲۴ students (%۴۸) was One standard deviation below the mean and and for ۱۵ of them (%۳۰) was two standard deviation below the mean. Working memory impairment is seen in most children with specific learning disorders. so, we suggest that reinforcement of working memory be placed in the content of textbooks
