Abstract:
Waterborne resins have emerged as an environmentally friendly alternative to solvent-based systems in protective coating applications, addressing concerns related to volatile organic compound emissions. Despite their ecological advantages, these resins typically exhibit inferior corrosion resistance compared to solvent-based formulations. Incorporating corrosion inhibitors into the resin matrix offers a practical solution to enhance protection. Among them, modified zinc based pigments, representing a new generation of zinc based inhibitors, have demonstrated outstanding performance. Experimental evaluations revealed that epoxy coatings containing modified zinc based pigments exhibited nearly twice the corrosion resistance compared to unpigmented epoxy coatings, confirming their potential for sustainable and durable protection.
