Abstract:

The rapid integration of renewable energy sources (RES) has fundamentally transformed modern power networks, introducing significant challenges in voltage and frequency stability due to reduced inertia and intermittent generation. Conventional simulation-based stability assessment methods are often computationally intensive and impractical for large-scale systems. This paper proposes a novel analytical framework for efficient voltage and frequency stability assessment in renewable-rich power systems. The proposed approach employs eigenvalue analysis and Lyapunov-based techniques, eliminating the need for exhaustive time-domain simulations. Furthermore, enhanced Voltage Stability Index (VSI) and Frequency Stability Index (FSI) are introduced to quantify stability margins. Case studies demonstrate that the proposed framework provides a computationally efficient, scalable, and insightful tool for stability analysis, planning, and operation of modern low-inertia power networks.
