Abstract:
The contemporary landscape of neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) has undergone a significant transformation, shifting from a strictly medicalized environment toward a comprehensive, family-centered care model. This transition underscores the critical role of neonatal nurses as primary facilitators of parent-infant bonding and long-term health outcomes. By integrating clinical excellence with emotional and educational support, nurses empower parents to participate actively in the care of their preterm infants, thereby mitigating parental stress and enhancing discharge readiness. This article explores the multifaceted impact of nurse-led interventions, including family integrated care and trauma-informed practices, on both neonatal recovery and the psychosocial well-being of the family unit. Synthesized evidence suggests that when nurses prioritize parental involvement in routine care and pain management, it leads to improved developmental outcomes for the infant and a reduction in post-discharge complications. Furthermore, the adoption of digital monitoring tools and standardized educational protocols provides a structured framework for consistent care delivery. Ultimately, fostering a collaborative partnership between the healthcare team and the family remains the cornerstone of modern neonatal nursing, ensuring that the transition from hospital to home is supported by competent and confident caregivers.
