Abstract:
Because MR framing has ductile behavior and provides an unobstructed space between columns, it is very widely used in practice. By modeling the all components and allfeatures of these frames, the more real behavior of them will be achieved. The panel zone is one of these components that play a decisive role in the stiffness,strength and ductility of MR frames. Research has shown that the panel zone of the MR frames under cyclic loads, with its stable and ductile behavior can be a good place for seismic energy dissipation. In this paper the behavior of panel zonein the terms of nominal resistance of elastic and post elastic range is studied. Thenthe previous experiments about the panel zone have been reviewed and the resultsare discussed. Research shows the benefits of using behavior of panel zone in design of moment resisting frames and it can be increased lateral displacement of MR frames about 5-10%.
