Abstract:
Iran has material resources to modernize its energy supply. Iran’s conventional strategy for power generation has been largely established on the usage of inexpensive local fossil fuels. So, a change of the energy system requires that current shortcomings and barriers will be worked out and discussed in a clear, frank and reliable manner. Iran has the world’s second largest proven oil resources after Saudi Arabia and the second largest gas resources after Russia; additionally it has high potential for renewable energy such as geothermal, solar, wind, biomass, etc. In the long run, it can be economically advantageous to pay more attention to insulation of buildings and their energy storage ability in Iran. This is based on present condition of buildings and energy costs in the country. The interesting finding of this study is that the expansion of renewable energy source (Solar Energy) would not result in an economic burden but would favour the Iranian economy, save costs and create new domestic jobs and new business sectors. This research intends to assess solar energy status and development in Iran and have analyzed the status of solar power plants as well as different projects in this field in Iran.
