Abstract:

In this work, shear stress distribution in adhesive layer of a stepped-lap joint under tensile loading is investigated. Classical elasticity theory is used to obtain the stress field in the adhesive layer. The analytical results show that if adherends are similar ingeometry and material properties, the maximum shear stress occurs at the edges of adherends. As a numerical solution, A two-dimensional finite element model is created in plane strain mode, and its result is compared with analytical solution. The two resultsdemonstrate good agreement. Also effects of dissimilar adherends and some other parameters on shear stress distribution in the adhesive layer are examined.
