Abstract:
During the recent years great attention has been directed at renewable energy sources like solar, wind, biomass and etc. According to the fact that fossil fuels cause to environmental and climate pollutions, renewable energies are important due to they can be an alternative for fossil fuels. After the oil crisis happened in 1970s, the strategy tending to new energiesamong social, economic and political researches of many countries was introduced. Among the renewable energies, geothermal energy has been proved to be of great importance for environmental protection. According to the country oil embargo and the undesirable situation of Isfahan Province, as many part of Iran, environmental and economic effects of replacing a geothermal 200 MW power plant to utilize the geothermal renewable energy were analyzed.The results showed that a geothermal 200 MW power plant is able to scrounge consuming about 3 million barrels of crude oil annually. From practical point of view, its revenue can help Isfahan Province to have economic long-term planning to reach a 20-year point of view. Also, it will have the ability to reduce 90 to 95% greenhouse gas emissions.
